Pantry Design Tips
During a kitchen remodel, it is common for homeowners to overlook their pantry and its design. But, it is important to carefully consider your pantry design and features when remodeling because it is of the most functional and highly used features in a home. If you are used to a generic pantry that only has a few shelves and not much else, you will be amazed at how much more enjoyable to use, beautiful, and efficient a custom pantry could be! So, how much more is there to pantry design than putting some shelves into a small room, closet, or other location in close proximity to your kitchen? Use these helpful pantry design tips when creating your dream custom pantry!
Pantry Design Tips
- Assess what you currently store in your pantry and what you wish you could store. This will help you determine the most convenient and effective types of storage and organization that you need.
- Maximize your space with strategic design and organization. Every home needs more storage and nothing is worse than inefficient storage that doesn’t maximize the available space. Consider adding shelves of varying depths and heights to accommodate a wider range of items. Things like pull-out drawers or baskets, or a lazy susan, can help you make the most of the space with the items that you store.
- When determining how you will vary shelf heights, depths, and features, think about what you have to store by categories. Then, based on the volume of items you tend to store in each category, organize your pantry design accordingly. This also makes it easier to find the things you need whether you are cooking dinner or baking a cake.
- Don’t overlook lighting! We’ve all had to dig around in a pantry that has deep shelves in the dark, making it impossible to see anything. Consider adding both ceiling lighting and shelf lighting to make your pantry easy to use.
